Amber Ruehe

Amber Ruehe is an artist who primarily works using acrylic paint on canvas. She does however enjoy experimenting from time to time in other mediums. A minimal  amount of brushes are used to create the illusion of movement and texture in her paintings. The use of short brush strokes and and multiple color combinations gives expression to each painting. An assortment of countries and states have influenced her subject matter. Growing up in South Florida and her time in Hawaii have helped develop the tropical feel of water and vibrant colors. The Charleston area has again influenced the direction she is taking and more pastel colors have been introduced.

There has been a continuing growth in her interest in art starting from early childhood, as her mother was an art teacher. AP art classes were a large part of high school and majoring in studio art in college continued to develop and hone her skills in the area. A painting is begun using three light colors that are blended onto the canvas. She then starts sketching her subject matter directly onto the canvas and a color palette is selected. Layering of colors and an assortment of techniques are almost always included in her paintings. At this point a decision is made on the technique that will be used in painting the picture.
