Kat Cumberledge is a Charleston, SC, based artist specializing in acrylic and watercolor painting. Her art often features colorful depictions of Lowcountry staples, juxtaposed by a tendency to depict a variety of whimsical still life subjects using a rustic palette with splashes of color.
She was born in the mountains of West Virgina, but fell in love with the marshy coastland when vacationing to Charleston nearly 10 years ago. The birth of her two children has inspired a love of creating art that adds both sentimentality and style to a room.
Art has been a lifelong passion for Kat. As a child, art supplies were in no shortage as she filled the days imagining new ways to bring her creative dreams to fruition. She began painting with acrylics in college and for the first time began to entertain art as a realistic career option. Since then, she has steadily entered the local art scene, gradually taking on more projects each year. She officially launched her business, “The Painted Katie” in 2016 and has since been a regular artist featured in the Historic Downtown Market. She enjoys hosting a biannual “Bible’s and Brushes” event at James Island Baptist Church and recently illustrated her first children’s book.
Kat is excited about the future of her career in art. She is constantly drawing fresh inspiration from her surroundings and seeking new innovative ways to use her paintings to bring joy everyone she encounters while pointing others to the life changing relationship she has with her Creator and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In the next few years, her goal is to grow her global audience by participating in art fairs and continuing to establish a strong social media presence. She also plans to continue illustrating and is looking forward to debuting multiple new collections that celebrate life, Creation, and the Lowcountry.
