Sue Selvey
Artist Bio: Born and raised in West Virginia, I came to Goose Creek, SC by way of
Amelia Island, Fl. in 1990 and have lived in Crowfield Plantation ever
since. I received a bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University and
a Master’s degree from West Virginia University. Prior to my retirement
in 2005, I was an air traffic controller for 23 years, first in Jacksonville,
Fla. and then at Charleston Airport.
I am an exhibiting artist at Art on the Square Gallery at Nexton in
Summerville and Art Mecca on King Street in Charleston. I am a
member of the Berkeley Artist Guild and the Goose Creek Artist Guild
and have served or am serving as an officer in both guilds. I work in
the mediums of watercolors, pastels, oils and alcohol inks. I have
yearly been selected as a monthly exhibiting artist at the Goose Creek
Community Center.
My paintings encompass an eclectic range of subject matter. I travel
overseas yearly and many of my paintings are creations inspired by
photos taken during these trips. I enjoy interpreting the whimsical, the
rustic, and the unusual or unexpected. I also try to preserve pictorially
the rural landscape and settings that are too often disappearing into the
urban sprawl. I want my paintings to portray a sense of delight and a
feeling that the viewer could step into the painting and be an active
participant within the scene.
